Behind the Scenes of a Project

At Salt Point, we love to serve you with the dream renovations for your home. Our team would be thrilled to be able to jump right into every project that comes across our path. However, we typically take a little more time starting projects. The reason for this is that we are dedicated to providing the best service and experience possible to each and every customer. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into every renovation, remodel, or repair. I would like to give you a peek at everything that is involved with a typical project to show you how much we at Salt Point care about helping you create your dream home.

Let’s take a look at a straightforward bathroom remodel.

Initial meeting and estimate:

We try to set up an initial meeting for 45 minutes to 2 hours to dedicate enough time for establishing your vision for a bathroom project. Every bathroom is different in terms of its size, layout, and available remodeling budget. This time is also used to build a relationship with you and answer your questions or concerns. Building mutual trust is the best way to ensure a smooth process for completing the project. It is important that we set expectations and have clear communication.

Typically within 24 hours, the team will get an estimate to you. Although, depending on the complexity and needs of the project, it could take a little more time. We take all of the concepts that we have discussed and attach some numbers to them. These initial numbers are based on our interpretation of what you are looking for, and therefore include allowances since specific materials have not been selected yet.

Contract and material selection.

The next step is to write up a contract once we come to an agreement and have decided that both parties trust the other moving forward. We can then start to plan and select materials for the project.

We have a comprehensive list of trusted suppliers that we recommend as a starting point. Many customers may already have an idea of what they are looking for, while others depend more on input from our team. Either way, we will work with you and guide you toward making the best decisions that fit your budget and achieve the look you desire. Striking out on your own could be risky, so be aware that the saying “you get what you pay for” can often rear its ugly head at this stage. For a bathroom, there are many considerations like plumbing fixtures, vanities, countertops, tile, paint colors, mirrors, and hooks. We work with you to help with this complex and often intimidating process.

Second meeting and ordering.

Once we have a clear idea of the materials necessary, we will schedule another meeting to walk through your selections. This is when we will confirm exact measurements and amounts for the materials which is key to the project running smoothly. If any changes must be made to the initial estimate or the amount of materials needed, we will update them.

When the exact quantities are finalized and the layout plan is completed, we will order the materials. Some items will take longer to come in than others like vanities, tile, or countertops. Efficiency matters, as no one wants to demo their bathroom only to find out that they will be waiting for twelve weeks for countertops to come in, so we make sure that this step is fully considered/understood before moving forward. Our team will communicate with you clearly so that we are all on the same page.

Project start and schedule.

Once all of the materials are ordered, we will get estimated delivery times, some of which are firm dates, and others that are windows. This allows the team to plan out when the project can begin as the materials arrive.

How long each project takes will vary. Although bathrooms are smaller, they are very complex rooms that require many different skillsets, including demo, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, sheetrock, tile, painting, and trimming. Salt Point employs individuals with a lot of these skills, but the project requires heavy coordination and relationships with different trades to run smoothly. As an example, some counties require only certified plumbers to work on bathroom remodels. The heavy-lifting that we do at Salt Point helps to move the process along for you.

Job completion and final walk through

A typical bathroom remodel can take several weeks. Often, the last week or two are spent waiting for the last materials to arrive, like a shower door, countertop, or plumbing finishes. Whatever it takes, we will work with you to create the look you want as quickly as we can. Other home project timelines can be wide-ranging.

We know how important it is to do a final walk through of the project once it is completed. Our goal is to ensure that you are satisfied, but it also brings a smile to my face to see a completed project. At the end of the day, Salt Point employees, including myself, have families to support and bills to pay just like you do. However, for our team, nothing beats the feeling of creating something new for the customer that exceeds their expectations, and maybe even results in a repeat customer. While a bathroom takes time to do well, we want to put in the work so that you are delighted with the result.

We would love to work for you.

As I said earlier, we wish that we could jump on every project right away, but that is not always possible. So much time, attention, and energy goes into each and every project because our goal is to make your dreams come true. If you are looking for a company that understands you and will work tirelessly toward your vision, then give Salt Point a call!
